A sunny winter morning at a balcony over-looking the ever so bustling GK1 market, emitting a very chilled out, lazy Sunday vibe. Cafe Elation sits perfectly on a corner building with a great rooftop, balcony and a kickass party place with the Sun-downer. The interiors are done keeping in mind the whole concept – great sheesha, a cocktail of laughter and fun nibbles.
We started with some classic shakes – cold coffee and oreo cookie shake – very much like what you make at home, a tad too sweet but really quite lovely.
The chicken ham sandwich – grilled sandwich with lettuce and fresh lettuce accompanied by fries and coleslaw. The sandwich could gave had a little better dressing but the fresh meat was simply divine.
Baked chicken sandwich – an open sandwich loaded with diced bell pepper and chicken bits. A crunchy toasted bread with chicken shards and dollops of cheese.
Nachos – baked nachos topped with mozzarella, chopped bell pepper and onions served with freshly made salsa and sour cream. The house preparations of both salsa and sour cream were brilliant but the nachos definitely needed a lot more cheese.
Elation special wrap – fried chicken strips with lettuce, bell pepper and oodles of mayonnaise, wrapped in a soft shell, the wrap was very well dressed. The savory, delish chicken balanced perfectly with the crunchy bell pepper, the slight sweetness added by the mayo made this one completely irresistible.
Chicken lollipop – juicy, saucy and very succulent, the saucy lollipops are pretty darn good.
Chilly garlic fish – crispy saucy fish tossed with crunchy bell pepper. The fish was really fresh but the stark salty flavor kind of marred it.
Spaghetti aglio olio – spaghetti done al dente, tossed in oregano, olives and sun-dried tomatoes served with fresh garlic bread. The seasoning was just right and the chicken was gorgeously tossed.
Grilled fish in lemon butter sauce – fresh grilled fish, very succulent, grilled to perfection fish topped with lemon butter sauce. Served again with mashed potatoes and steamed crunchy vegetables.
Grilled chicken in peri peri sauce with mashed potatoes and steamed, seasoned vegetables. Chicken breasts, well marinated drizzled over with peri peri sauce. The sauce really was quite spicy, the buttery mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables balancing the heat perfectly. PS – this dish is on the menu with porcini mushroom sauce but the chef was happy to give us something different.
Cafe Elation is a perfect spot to unwind, they could kick a few nuances here and there and then have a jackpot. Don’t miss on their Aglio Olio
