After dining at the crazy Jail themed restaurant’s newest outlet, we decided to check out the one where it all began. Located in Vyapar Kendra, Sushant Lok, Lock Up greets you with a huge Police van, behind the bars menu, dining cells and a general dingy dungeon feel. This outlet is a lot smaller than the second one, which has a lot more detail, read all about it here.
We started with a Caeser salad – iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, black olives and bread crumb coated and fried chicken bits and walnuts with a dressing of honey mustard mayonnaise. The salad is well balanced with greens and crunchy bits but cannot be fully claimed healthy. A pretty good bite none the less.
Tandoori chicken tikka – succulent chicken tikka, well marinated and grilled to perfection, served most exquisitely. Plated on top a desi mashed potatoes with an onion ring each and with a mint sprig, the chicken tikka is yummy to bits.
Chicken steak – chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms and cheese and drizzled over with button mushrooms, grilled broccoli, green and yellow zucchini, mushroom, carrot and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes need a little more whipping and butter, but the chicken breast was very well done. Slow cooked chicken – whole chicken grilled and slow cooked in a sweet mushroom sauce with shallots and carrots, topped with a rosemary sprig. The chicken could have been a little more marinated to be just a little more succulent.
Vegetarian pizza – thin crust pizza with green and black olives, broccoli, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, green and red bell pepper and oodles of cheese. The thin crust pizza is just a little greasy and the bell pepper slightly chunkier than they should have been but otherwise a sumptuous preparation.
Chicken butter masala, dal makhni, steamed rice – a big fan of their desi curries, lastly we gobbled on their chicken butter masala – with juicy pieces of chicken tikka in a creamy, flavorsome gravy. Dal makhni cooked to a simmered deliciousness, their curries are one of the best you can find.
We rounded up the meal with a portion of Shahi tukda – served heavily garnished with silver waraq.
Lock up packs a great deal with awesome curries and a must have tandoori chicken tikka and pizza. They are open till 3.00 AM and also deliver around, so yayy.
