The Runway Project by Pizza Express

I have not come across anyone who doesn’t like Pizza Express and their cheesecake is among THE best ever. And their most recent brand addition has been beyond amazing! The Runway Project is their latest property which combines the fashion and food. Located at Select City Walk, the gorgeous window display allured you in, with plush velvet couches, a fine bar and a menu designed quite along the lines of your favoring binge read fashion magazine. What’s more, their menu is designed just like the seasonal fashion trends and will rotate as the season changes.

Starters

We started with some excellent salads – Size 0 – Watermelon bed, roasted broccoli, goji berries, pumpkin seeds, charred leeks, and feta crumble. A very chic twist on a classic watermelon and feta cheese, the addition of broccoli and leeks makes this a very interesting bite, the crunch perfectly balanced by the pumpkin seeds and the punch of goji berries. Wardrobe Malfunction – this salad is named so as it brings two very meaty textures and makes them work very well. Grilled chicken, romaine lettuce, quinoa, pickled red cabbage, roasted yellow pepper, rosemary, and emilgrana dressing. The crunchy quinoa and lettuce leaves and meatiness of chicken and red cabbage make this a wholesome start.

Small Plates

The Makeover – a no-pasta and completely gluten-free lasagna. Zucchini sheets, grana padana, and ricotta cheese, a thick and creamy tomato sauce topped with some fresh pesto. This super healthy lasagna has had an excellent makeover and is rightly named. Bocconcini di Pollo – the chicken has been brined like the cheese and then grilled with olive and cranberry tapenade, mint and kale emulsion. The freshness of technique, and the inclusion of fresher flavors, made chicken delectable again. Tom Baker – a filo pie topped with rocket leaves, olives, capers, basil, burrata cheese and topped with balsamic. A recommendation by our server, the simplicity of the dish and the fresh burrata bowled us over!

Pizza and Pasta

Leggera Pizza – the Runway Project has come with an exciting new range of pizzas which double up as full meals. A bundt shape is cut out from the pizza and replaced with fresh salad leaves with a light dressing. The Pollo Forzogrilled chicken, bell pepper, jalapenos, mozzarella topped with emilgrana cheese and chilly oil with fresh salad leaves, pumpkin seeds, and olive oil. This new range is exemplary and the thin crust, perfectly dressed that it became one of the only pizzas that didn’t need the addition of seasoning. Spaghetti Alla Abruzzi – spaghetti al dente, pulled lamb ragu and olives. This meaty spaghetti sauce is full of creamy lamb with a thick tomato sauce and adds a slightly sweet tinge.

Dessert

Their desserts section is an ornate one – we tried The Coco. A tribute to the amazing Coco Chanel, this all-white dessert comes wrapped in white chocolate with white chocolate balls sprinkled all around. Coconut, passion fruit and an almond pastiera dacquoise sponge – all the flavors together turn out to be slightly sugary but I absolutely loved the concept and the dacquoise sponge!
