#NewinTown The Velvet Room

Velvet Room Greater Kailash

Opulent and plush, The Velvet Room is the new kid on the block with a chic cocktail menu and a wide selection of Asian delicacies. Plush purple velvet couches, an enviable bar, and a grey and green outdoor sitting area, an ideal place for brunch. A special mention to their crockery which has grooves to rest your chopsticks.

Drinks

We started off with their signature cocktails – Royal Cosmo, Sea Devil, and Green SangriaThe best was the sangria with crunchy melons, more so because it came with a long pick that I shamelessly fished and ate my melons with.

Starters

We started with Chicken Abodo– an authentic Philippines dish with succulent pieces of chicken tossed in soy with garlic bits and chunks of spring onion. Singaporean style fish wok tossed river sole with Asian herbs and spices – crunchy fried fish with onions and bell pepper. Both dishes have flavors reminiscent of street fare but would make for good bar bites.

Prawn Suimai – minced prawns in an open dumpling topped with fresh coriander leaves. The dumplings were a little bigger than bite-sized but really juicy and fresh prawns with a crunch intact. Assorted mushroom bao – these were spectacular; freshly steamed and piping hot stuffed with a crunchy mix of mushrooms. Dragon roll – this dragon roll was huge, and by huge, it really was difficult to get through the enormous thing in one go. Fresh salmon, crab meat, sesame seeds, asparagus and avocado topped with spicy mayo. The sushi was fresh, but it just had too much going on to be impactful.

Mains

For mains, we tried a smaller portion of Sambhal prawns with jasmine riceTheir mains, come with a portion of a choice of rice or noodles. Grilled prawns, broccoli, basil, and garlic sauce. This gravy was much like a regular sweet chilly gravy. The prawns were great but the sauce did not quite live up to its name.
