Winter menu at PizzaExpress

PizzaExpress has recently come up with a gorgeous Winter Menu and the excitement cannot be contained. They have added a whole new menu and you can either go for their course meal with mulled wine or order separates. The restaurant cloaked in Christmas colors and lights in the most minimalist way possible with even the Christmas tree a squibble of lines. Well lit, cosy booths and a wide open kitchen.

We started with the pumpkin soup and tomato soup with the dough diletto basket. The pumpkin soup was concocted most beautifully, a mix of sweet pumpkin and potatoes topped with fresh cream. The creamy preparation was very toothsome. The tomato soup on the other hand was a rich broth infused with wine and topped with croutons. The dough diletto is a basket of fresh bakes, right out of the oven with the signature dough balls and baked dough sticks topped with garlic and served with garlic butter.

Spinach artichoke tuffo with dough balls – crumbly feta cheese, spinach, artichokes, tangy capers and served with warm dough balls. The cheesy spinach dip was a perfect accompaniment to the soft doughballs.

For mains, we tried half of the two classic pizzas on the winter menu. Half on Pollo Cajun pizza and Romana Lamb Polpette. Traditionally a rectangle, but this one being half and half was a classic thin crust pie. Spread with cajun sauce, topped with cajun spiced chicken chunks, pepper and finished with sundried tomatoes and basil. Romana Lamb Polpette – a spicier, slightly Indianised version, spicy, juicy meatballs with tangy pomodoro sauce with sliced onions and drizzled over with mint yogurt. The cajun spiced chicken was definitely favored with its subtle flavors and hints of basil. The Romana lamb was just a bit too spicy but boy the lamb meatballs were beautiful.

For dessert we tried their chocolate cheesecake and the big bad brownie. The chocolate cheesecake was dense and slightly dark and completely delish.

The big bad brownie came in a cup – dark chocolate walnut brownie topped with gelato, blueberry compote, crunchies and chocolate sauce, a sinful dessert for all seasons.

Drown in the festivities a little more with their house mulled wine, a warm wine with very homely herbs making it a perfect Holiday spirit, especially loved the intoxicating taste of cinnamon.
