Dates and nuts laddoo – bliss balls for Diwali

Dates and nuts laddoo was honestly an experiment with the date syrup we had in our pantry for a while. And they turned out to be not just the easiest but also the quickest thing to make. With lots of dry fruits, cinnamon, sesame, and Ashwagandha powder, these laddoos are not only incredibly easy but also packed with lots of good health!

You can of course also check out the much more indulgent gulab jamun from scratch here.

Ingredients for Dates and nuts laddoo (makes around 25, bite-sized balls)

  • Dates paste – 250g
  • Almonds, chopped – 50g
  • Raisins, chopped – 30g
  • Roasted black gram – 50 g (with skin)
  • Ashwagandha powder – 2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon powder – 1 tbsp
  • Sesame seeds – 2 tbsp
  • Desi ghee – 1 tbsp

Method

  • Microwave the dates paste on high for 1 minute to heat it up slightly. We also tried to do the same in a kadhai, but since it doesn’t melt, you will have to cool it down unnecessarily to work it. Slightly microwaving the paste makes it a little softer and will make it easier to mix in all the ingredients.
  • Transfer the dates paste to a large plate or shallow bowl.
  • Coarsely ground the roasted black gram. (You can use something like this)
  • One by one add the chopped nuts, cinnamon powder, and ashwagandha powder to the date paste and keep kneading.
  • Add ghee to the dates paste and mix well.
  • Make around 1-inch balls rounding them between your palms.
  • Sprinkle the sesame on a flat plate.
  • Once you are happy with the shape of the dates and nuts laddoo, run them over in the sesame seeds.

This is a sugar-free recipe since the dates paste already is very sweet. These laddoos don’t need to be stored in the fridge either. They are ready to eat as is. Work amazing as a dessert and snacking for any time of the day!
