Mesa Wine Bistro – from nine to wine

Mesa Wine Bistro

Mesa Wine Bistro brings down the intimidation that still comes with the bottles. With Spanish wine labels, exclusive only to Mesa, and Spanish fare to tantalize your tastebuds. Bathed in hues of deep blue (I see the trend Pantone) the focus is on the wine. They house an Enomatic, a wine dispenser that makes it easy to serve wine by the glass. Mostly 5-star hotels house it, DEN being the only other standalone property to do so. The menu is mostly Spanish, with European influences seeping in.

Wines at Mesa

Mesa stays true to its name and has an excellent wine selection. Many of the wines being served are Spanish, selected to complement the food well. As they intend to make the Delhi market more friendly towards the spirit. We started off with an effervescent Rosé. Astoria Fashion Victim Rosé – juicy, with hints of ripe berries, and floral notes. The Rosé was crisp with a dry finish.

Holiday Specials

Since we were here during the celebratory season, we also tried some of their Holiday specials. Bunny on a plate, a crusted portobello steak with baby carrots and pickled radishes. The star and rightly so was the Spanish chorizo and bacon, served with pieces of garlic bread. Chunky, meaty pieces, tossed together in a spicy, tomato sauce. The Lamb Meatballs were a letdown and ended up being rather dry.

Coca

Pizza has travelled to its European neighbours and almost always gets a makeover. There is the Tarte Flambee, white pizza of France and now I got to try Coca, the Spanish cousin. Served on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, Coca has different sweet, savoury and closed and open variations to it. We tried the smoked chicken and blue cheese coca. Paired with Clos Ventana Blanco, the wine was surprisingly light, fruity and let a lot many flavours after opening up.

Main Plates

Coming to a Spanish bistro and not eating Paella is criminal. But we were rather disappointed with the Broccoli and Asparagus Paella, simply too dry the basic flavours were amiss. The other two were winners though – I loved the Burrata stuffed Agnolotti – served with edamame, cherry tomatoes and pesto. The Chargrilled Tenderloin was the best of the lot. Medium rare steak, on the rare side, crackling sides, with roast baby potatoes and jus. We paired our mains with a beautiful glass of Rioja.

Desserts

The desserts were all heart winners. I loved everything! The use of peppercorn crumb in desserts added another dimension and heightened the plates so much.

Mesa Wine Bistro does need to polish their Spanish plates a little more, but you must visit them for the wines and desserts. And the steak if you are a meat lover!
