PLATS – plates that mesmerize

PLATS

Just when you thought Delhi was done with European, enters PLATS. The latest baby of Chefs Hanisha Singh and Jamsheed Bhote. On an unsuspecting Malviya Nagar road, Plats is a spanking new place with plenty of welcoming greens. Plats, French for Plates serves small, large and shareable plates. A fair example would only be the translation of Master Chef plates into reality. Flavour, texture, sauces, plating, everything to the minutest detail is impeccable. In other words, Chefs Hanisha and Jamsheed have brought International standards to the hood.

The restaurant is mostly linear, with chic leather couches, leather table mats and beautiful crockery from Devnow. The menu is a healthy division between small and large plates. And you would not be left bewildered by the menu, unlike many other restaurants.

Plates at Plats

We started with the much talked about Shroom Buns. Freshly baked, French-inspired profiteroles, stuffed with light and smooth shroom mousse. The crispy bites are topped with Goat’s cheese, balsamic vinegar and Arugula leaves. But the real hero of the dish is the brown sugar char on top of the buns. The taste is different from all the textures together, especially with the Arugula. That’s the only thing I would have changed about the dish, added more arugula. The pepper cut through the cheese and mushrooms beautifully.

8oz Tenderloin burger – hands down the best burger in the city. I have been talking about compiling a list for the best burgers in the city. My procrastination seems justified now. And, the wait for the top position is over. The most life-changing burger ever, we couldn’t help but lick our fingers! A medium-rare tenderloin patty, crispy bacon, cheese, caramelised onions, fried egg and a brioche bun. Served with fries, homemade grainy mustard and pickled cucumbers. As I dug into the beautiful piece, and juices streamed down my hands and I was suddenly in a burger commercial. The experience was surreal. Everything from the perfect sesame topped brioche bun to the juicy, most sinful tenderloin patty. All the accompaniments complimented the flavours perfectly. My mini love letter doesn’t palliate the gorgeousness of the burger. You would simply have to try it for yourself.

Pulled lamb crusted steak – pulled lamb, put together in a crusted steak, mashed potatoes, greens and topped with jus. The meaty lamb and crusty textures bring together a splendid balance. The jus packs a punch finished with creamy mashed potatoes and sauteed greens. Let’s just say, a squeaky clean plate speaks more than a 1000 delectable synonyms.

Need another reason than my ode to the meal? You will have to try it for yourself. There are so many things I can’t wait to try off their menu myself. The tiramisu Mille Feuille, Cubano sandwich, Linguine with truffles, ah! Cannot wait to go back.
